The Legend of Mala Tokmachka Getting Started Guide

Learn the siege loop before your first wave hits the walls.

Getting Started

The Legend of Mala Tokmachka is a single-player 2D tower-defense and fortress-building game on Steam from developer The Current Thing. You construct a vertical stronghold block by block, install weapons and support modules, then survive endless waves of ground and air attackers. Between assaults you repair damage, upgrade guns, and expand upward — every choice trades immediate safety against long-term firepower.

This guide explains the core loop so day one feels intentional. Pair it with Fortress Building for layout theory, Anti-Air Defense for sky threats, Ground Defense for armor lanes, and Repair and Resources for economy timing. For tone and lore context, see Story and Setting.

What you are defending

The battlefield is a nameless frontier village where a siege has lasted so long it became legend. Your fortress is not a static tower — it is a modular machine made of walls, weapons, power systems, radar, repair blocks, and defensive platforms. Ground forces push from below; aircraft, drones, artillery, and missiles strike from above and at range. Waves grow larger and faster over time, so the game rewards layered defense rather than one super-weapon.

Steam lists a planned release of August 13, 2026. Until then, treat specific costs and keybinds as subject to change; confirm details on the Release Date page and System Requirements before install day.

The core gameplay loop

Every session follows a repeating rhythm that tower-defense veterans will recognize, but with construction freedom in the middle:

  1. Build — Place structural blocks and mount weapons during calm moments or between waves.
  2. Defend — Survive an assault where every block can be damaged and expose a weakness.
  3. Repair — Spend resources to patch critical sections before the next wave.
  4. Upgrade and expand — Reinforce walls, improve guns, add layers, or widen the base for more modules.
  5. Adapt — Swap priorities when new enemy types appear (for example, more aircraft after you solved ground armor).

Money, experience, and repair capacity are all limited. The game asks you to decide which part of the base is worth saving when fire becomes overwhelming — a triage skill covered in depth in Repair and Resources.

Module types you will use immediately

Steam marketing and trailer footage confirm these categories even before full stat datamining:

CategoryRole
Walls / structureVertical expansion and damage absorption
Machine guns & cannonsGeneral ground fire and armored targets
Anti-air systemsDrones, aircraft, and low-altitude threats
Lasers & missilesSpecialized high-threat counters
Power modulesKeep advanced weapons online
RadarDetection and targeting support
Repair blocksSustain structure between waves

You do not need every type on wave one. Early runs should prioritize one reliable ground lane plus basic sky coverage — see Walkthrough: First Days for a preview order.

First-hour checklist (pre-launch)

Use this before and during your first session:

  1. Wishlist or purchase on Steam & Community links.
  2. Install WebView2 Runtime if prompted — required per Steam system notes; details in System Requirements.
  3. Read Controls for known input basics; update after launch if keybinds differ.
  4. Skim Fortress Building so you plan height before you run out of resources.
  5. Open Module Reference in a second monitor or phone for mid-run lookups.
  6. Follow Launch Day Checklist on release morning.

Threats to plan for early

Preview material shows a combined arms siege: infantry assault groups, armored vehicles, artillery, drones, aircraft, and missiles. No single weapon solves all of them. Players who lose early often built ground-heavy forts without overlapping anti-air — avoid that by reading Anti-Air Defense before your third wave.
